Engaged for the Pandemic (Gifts & Wedding Planning)

My fiancé, Tanner, proposed to me a few days before our country went on lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic (How He Asked, here). To say the least, we’ve had an interesting start to wedding planning.

We’re off to a slow start on our end, but we’ve felt the love from our friends and family with a variety of thoughtful gifts to celebrate our engagement. I had to share these acts of love!

If you’re looking for a sweet gift for someone newly engaged, here are a few ideas:

  • My mom & best friend, Alison, sent us a few wedding planners, since we want to plan our own! All are from @theknot.
  • The Mine Co. sent me the “Crystal Clear Carats Pen” to clean my ring on-the-go, which I also sent to Alison since she’s recently engaged as well. Check out the post, here.
  • Emily sent me a hanger for my wedding dress. It’s customized with my future name, Mrs. Lyday. This was so special and necessary!
  • Jenn had this poster made for us by a friend of hers who’s an artist. This cute skeleton couple is perfect for us!
  • Jocelyn sent me a ring dish for my nightstand. She must have read my mind because as I was saying I wanted one, it was already in my mailbox! She ordered from @francesca’s.
  • Danielle sent us this beautiful custom metal piece that has Tanner & Kaitlyn Lyday engraved into it. Can’t you imagine this in an entrance-way or common space in our forever house one day?

As far as actually planning the wedding goes, you’d think we’d have all the time in the world to figure out each and every detail. Unfortunately, due to social distancing guidelines and a having an unexpectedly slower start to saving, we hardly have plans at all.

We started with a very rough draft of an invite list. We won’t be able to finalize that list until we know where we’re hosting the celebration, in case there are limits. We’ve applied for a couple places, but have not found the one just yet.

Without a venue reserved, we are not able to officially set a date for our wedding. We have a month/season in mind, but can’t make a fair estimate on when the world will be allowed to see each other in large groups again.

Since we don’t have a date set, we can’t ask our wedding parties if they want to be involved. It would be unfair to ask them to make a commitment they don’t have a date for.

So…. We wait until we finalize a venue/date and enjoy each other’s company being engaged until then. Tanner and I have been together over 5 years already, and we have known for a long time that we want to be committed to one another indefinitely. Excited for an epic party when it happens.
